UPDATE: Due to rain last night the line painting was not completed and the lights will not be turned on today. See update here: Weather has delayed Hanes and Centre Street traffic lights from going live today.
Residents are advised that traffic signals are installed and will be active at Centre Street and Hanes Avenue as of Thursday, July 28, 2022. Improvements include traffic signals, addition of turning lanes and upgrades to infrastructure to assist with safety and the flow of traffic.
Over the past five years, traffic studies have confirmed that traffic in this intersection will continue to increase with new development and, therefore, have an impact on traffic safety and flow. The recent upgrades and signals are part of a plan to improve traffic and pedestrian safety in and around this intersection.

Hi everyone
Unfortunately the overnight rain prevented the line painters from doing the new lanes and crosswalks at Centre and Hanes so we can’t turn the traffic lights on today. Hopefully tonight we can do the painting and turn the lights on tomorrow morning.
Thanks for your patience.
Claude

Looking forward to the lights but what about the above grade plastic storm pipe running west on Haines Rd. How is that to be protected from snow removal equipment come winter?

It would be wise for the Town of Huntsville to start integrating the infrastructure for separate bike lanes so that Huntsville can become more bike friendly.
As more people move to Huntsville we will need to reduce the reliance on cars to get around town.
I am curious to know if this is being discussed on Council as the roads are being designed?

Catherine, we’re on the same page here. Bike lanes should be a no-brainer for every town and city. Given the high cost of rent / mortgage payments, the price of vehicles, the cost of gas, using an environmentally friendly and an inexpensive means of transportation as weather permits, seems logical. For example, Ottawa has bike lanes which seems to well serve the bikers. Further, a more user-friendly bus system seems logical, too – especially as more businesses are locating farther away from the main core (e.g. Freshco is relocating).
