In a year that has proved challenging for many local families, The Table Soup Kitchen Foundation is appealing to those businesses who have not been as adversely affected by the pandemic to help the organization support people in our community.

“Despite challenges posed by COVID-19, The Table Soup Kitchen Foundation remains on the front lines helping the hungry, hurting and homeless. We have been serving and will continue to serve (creatively at times) an ever-increasing number of families,” writes The Table’s volunteer fundraising coordinator, Alison Withey.

“As a member of our community you understand the challenge. You have seen COVID-19 change the landscape and how businesses are run. We watch for changes in Ontario’s colour code and hope for the best, yet reduced hours and job loss are all too real here in Huntsville and surrounding areas,” she adds. “More and more households are making the tough choice between rent, utilities, childcare, medicines and food. Many agonize over asking for help for the first time in their lives and we are here for them. Guests are asked to present identification for family members. No other questions are asked.”

COVID-19 has forced The Table to postpone many of its fundraising events. “As the number of people who visit The Table increase, we are caught in the perfect storm,” notes Withey. “Furthermore, some of our tireless volunteers have respectfully asked to stay at home during this period of time. We understand and support their decision.”

The Table is asking businesses for donations in any amount, with $100 to $500 suggested. “Any amount is appreciated,” says Withey.

Those wishing to help can donate one of the following ways:

  • Mail a cheque to The Table Soup Kitchen Foundation, Box 5411, Huntsville ON, P1H 2K7.
  • Donate online at canadahelps.org (select the “General” fund in the drop-down menu).
  • Arrange for pick up of your cash or cheque donation from your office (call Alison Withey at 705-783-4218 to make arrangements).
  • Drop off your donation at The Table’s office at 9 Hanes Street (you may want to call Alison Withey in advance to confirm hours).

“Our gratitude is unending,” says Withey. “We are so very grateful for everyone’s support to this year-end push for funds.”
