This photo, courtesy of Nancy Tapley, is of the family’s homestead in Dwight, Lake of Bays. It was taken from the lookout trail by Nancy Tapley’s mother, Rosemary, in the early 1950s, after World War 2.

Bondi Village Resort’s roots date back to 1905, when Joseph and Elizabeth Tapley purchased the property at the top of Haystack Bay and named it “Bondi” after Australia’s famous Bondi Beach. The property, with its vast shoreline, began as a pioneer farm before gradually evolving into a tourist destination as the family welcomed visitors and later began building rental cottages.

Today, the resort—now operating as Bondi Village Resort—remains in the hands of the Tapley family, making it one of the older family-run resort properties in Muskoka.
