Watershed safety bulletin extended to Aug. 3

From the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry:

The area branch of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is advising residents that a Watershed Conditions Statement – Water Safety Bulletin is in effect in the district until Thursday, Aug. 3, 2023.

This message will affect residents within the MNRF Bracebridge, Minden, and Parry Sound District for portions of the District of Muskoka and County of Haliburton within the Muskoka River Watershed.

Water levels and river flows continue to be higher than normal for this time of year.

Boaters are advised to be cautious if traveling on local waterways. Boat traffic during high water conditions can cause damage to shorelines and to shoreline property as a result of wakes created by vessels.

I read this twice and am still left wondering, is this the message or has the MNR somehow posted something else, maybe more detailed, that I missed somewhere?

In typical “govermentise” I’m little more informed after reading this than before. The point seeming to say that “high water can damage things along rivers”. Well this is kind of obvious. More to the point, is do we really have excessively high water now? It got high a few weeks ago but only for a short time and generally this summer has been as “normal” as is normal. Previous years we have seen water levels go very low quite early in the seasonal cycle, to the point where there was not enough water to use docks and boathouses in many areas. This seems not to be the case this year, but I don’t see any significant flooding.
If there is flooding, MNR sure is not talking about it in any media release I have seen.

I’m left little wiser by this message than I would be if I had never seen it in the first place.
