The Armstrong Dodge Midget AE Otters and the MBRP Major Midget Otters are taking their seasons to the top.
Both teams earned their way into the OMHA Championships by each winning three out five games in their semi-final rounds.
The MBRP Major Midget Otters began their playdown journey in the preliminary round against the South Muskoka Bears, winning three straight in the best-three-of-five series.
In the quarter finals, Huntsville met the Collingwood Blackhawks and again had three straight wins, taking game one 5-2 and game two 2-1 and then dominating the third and final game 10-2 to sweep the series.
In the semi-finals, the Otters met the Lindsay Muskies who were not much of a match in their hockey ability but the Muskies brought a level of aggression that forced the Otters to play smart and cautious to prevent provoked penalties and player injuries.
Coach Jason Farnsworth commends his players for playing a very disciplined style of hockey against the Muskies, focusing on the task at hand and getting the job done while playing smart. One of the Major Midgets’ team strengths is working together and playing focused hockey where “every player contributes a necessary piece of the puzzle, including the goalies, defense and forwards,” added Farnsworth.
Game one was in Lindsay and Huntsville stormed to a 10-1 win. The Otters played game two on home ice with a clean 3-0 win. In game three, back in Lindsay, the Otters fed the Muskies a repeat of their first match to end the series with a score of 10-1.
The MBRP Major Midget Otters will begin their OMHA Championship series against the Mount Brydges Cougars with two home games this weekend. The series schedule is as follows:
Game 1 at Huntsville (Don Lough), Saturday, March 16, 9:00 p.m.

Game 3 at Mt Brydges, Saturday, March 23, 4:05 p.m.
Game 4 at Mt Brydges, Sunday, March 24, 11:30 a.m.
Game 5 at Huntsville (Don Lough), Saturday, March 30, 5 p.m.
Game 6 at Mt Brydges, Sunday, March 31, 6:00 p.m.
The Midget AE Otters finished their semi-final round against the Listowel Cyclones with a clean sweep. “All three games were very close. All one-goal games, with a couple empty net goals with Listowel pulling their goalie, said Coach Mike Lines.
The Otters first hosted the Cyclones on the Don Lough Arena where the Otters took the first win of the series, 3-1. In their second game, the Otters traveled to Listowel and put up a good fight to take the lead by one goal and ended the game with their second win, 3-2. Moving on to the third game, the Otters had the opportunity to end the series on home ice. Not only did they win, they shut out the Cyclones 2-0 amidst cheers from their hometown fans.
The Armstrong Dodge Midget AE Otters are now up against the Pelham Panthers in the OMHA finals. The schedule is still a work-in-progress but will be posted on the huntsvillehockey.ca website under the Playoff Alert bar.
It would be great to see Huntsville Otters fans come out to support their Midget Otters on their quest for the OMHA championship, said Lines. “The players really get a lot out of a full barn.”
Come out and cheer your Otters teams on. Go, Otters, go!
