Huntsville athlete Savannah Loates selected to represent Barrie/York at the Ontario Summer Games

Huntsville’s Savannah Loates has earned a spot on the Barrie/York regional basketball team and will compete at the 2026 Ontario Summer Games in Kitchener-Waterloo from July 30 to August 2.

Savannah’s selection is a testament to her hard work, dedication, and passion for basketball. After a competitive tryout process, she was chosen to represent the Barrie/York region alongside some of the area’s top young athletes.

Before the Games begin, Savannah and her teammates will face off against the Halifax Thunder Selects in an exhibition game in Toronto.

This accomplishment follows an outstanding year for Savannah. She recently celebrated her Grade 8 graduation and earned the Honour Roll and Most Improved Student designations, reflecting her commitment to excellence both academically and athletically.

The Ontario Summer Games are one of the province’s premier amateur sporting events, bringing together the best young athletes from across Ontario to compete, develop their skills, and create lifelong memories, with experiences that can help prepare them for future university and post-secondary opportunities.

The Huntsville community is incredibly proud of Savannah’s achievement and wishes her and the Barrie/York team the very best as they compete on the provincial stage.
