Smoke in the air? Here’s what you need to know

You may notice the smell of smoke or hazy conditions across our area this week. This smoke is drifting into our region from active wildfires burning elsewhere in the province.

While the smoke may not mean there is a fire nearby, always stay alert. If you see smoke or flames that appear to be from a new or uncontrolled fire, call 911 immediately. Early reporting helps firefighters respond quickly and can prevent small fires from becoming major incidents.

⚠️ Kearney Fire & Emergency Services also reminds residents that we are currently under a HIGH Fire Hazard Rating. With the ongoing hot, dry weather, vegetation can ignite easily and fires can spread rapidly.

If you see smoke or flames, don’t assume someone else has called; dial 911. Your quick action could protect lives, property, and our forests.

🔥 Only YOU can help prevent wildfires. Stay alert, stay safe, and help protect our community.

Smoke in the air in Gravenhurst and it’s hard to breathe for those with asthma and physical jobs to do daily. Please handle these fires.
