The TriMuskoka triathlon is back, this is a popular local event oriented for beginners that the TriMuskoka Club will be hosting on Sunday, June 26 with an official start time of 8 a.m.
The swim portion of the event will happen in the river near the Summit Centre, the bike portion takes place on Brunel Road and the run portion takes place around Camp Kitchen Rd, Forbes Hill Drive, and the Summit Centre.
It will be a busy area so please plan alternate routes if you can! Please also watch for cyclists in this area around this event and be cautious when passing — the paved shoulders are still sandy in many locations on Brunel Rd, so they are not safe to use by cyclists in these locations.

To Tom Stehr: I agree. I also believe that none of the roads or highways should be closed. Many years ago, highway 60 was closed. Where we lived, we did not have ANY way to get out until the event (triathlon or similar)was over.
I drive Brunel rd regularly and the bike traffic on it is dangerous at any time. There are to many of them that think they have as much right to be on the road as drivers have. Now if they need the sand removed so they can ride there bike and stay off the driving portion of the road then they should pay for it to be removed. as drivers we pay big bucks for gas tax just so we have a decent rd to drive on the bikers don’t pay a cent put want all the privileges. The other thing is they should have to wear a bright cloured shirt if they are going to be riding on the roads they don’t realize just how hard they are to see when they are dressed in all black and are in the shadows. Some have no respect at all and think they own the roads.
Weekend days during the warm months of summer are precious to business owners. To have this area closed and shut down does adversely affect our business at Sugarbush Hill Maple Farm. Covid for two years, now high gas prices (less traffic from the GTA) and road closures makes this unacceptable for businesses along Brunel Rd and Muskoka Rd #10.
I do support events such as this but it seems its always this south side of Huntsville that gets closed. Please spread the events to other areas and not always the same one…HELP
This is such a fun event! What’s with the District that the winter sand is still thick along the edge of Brunel Road? My husband found it quite dangerous on his ride the other day. Some places it’s very thick and there’s no way you can stay in the “bike” lane, which means riding on a high speed road with lots of traffic. It’s the end of June already. What’s with that? Our town streets were done a number of times early this spring, although there’s still sand in places. Wobbly roads and an icy winter aggravated the situation I suppose.
