With Ontario’s aging population on the rise, the demand for healthcare in Huntsville will continue to increase. The Town of Huntsville would like to notify residents of a public consultation period for Fairvern Nursing Home’s Ministry application with respect to long-term care in our community.
Fairvern Nursing Home is currently licensed to operate 76 Long-Term Care beds and has applied to the Ministry for an Enhanced Long-Term Care Home Renewal Strategy. This application includes a licence for an additional 20-bed allocation.
“Last month Fairvern’s waiting list, which is the number of people who have selected Fairvern as their home of choice was at 137,” said Fairvern Board Chair Rob Laver. “That is an increase of over 35 per cent in the past 18 months and clearly indicates the dire need for additional long-term beds in Huntsville and Muskoka.”
The Town of Huntsville would like to encourage residents to submit their comments and provide their opinions with respect to the application. “It is crucial for the residents of Huntsville to impress upon the Ministry of Health the importance of long-term care in our community and the facility that makes it happen,” said Mayor Scott Aitchison. “Fairvern is an integral part of our incredible health care network and we must do everything we can to support its redevelopment.”
The Public consultation period is now open until December 29, 2017. Residents can provide their specific comments on the proposed application by means of written comment to the contact listed below. Please include the name of the long-term care home, Fairvern Nursing Home, and quote project #18-030 on all written submissions.

This is the very last place on earth I would support in anyway. My father was here and over medicated to dehydration and never lived once he finally was put in hospital and we had to force that.
This is a no-brainer !! Given the information informing us of the # of folks on the waiting list, given the upcoming population requiring accommodation in the near future, given so much obvious evidence of an urgent need, not to mention we know of seniors in dire need of a bed in one of our facilities – WHY IS THERE EVEN A DELAY ???
