Following a request from the Downtown Huntsville BIA, parking at three downtown Huntsville parking lots—the High Street, Minerva, and Algonquin Theatre lots—will be limited to three hours from June 1 to September 30.
The BIA had initially asked for the restriction on only the High Street Parking lot, which is across from the rear of Town Hall, and from April to October.
Town staff looked at the other parking lots in the area to determine if a time limit was needed for them as well.
At its April 28 meeting, Huntsville’s general committee passed a resolution which modified the BIA’s request to include the other two lots identified by Town staff—the Minerva Street lot at the corner of Minerva and West St S, and the lot behind the Algonquin Theatre—as well as shorten the months when the three-hour time limit would be in effect—from June 1 to September 30.
The Town-owned lots in River Mill Park and on West St N behind RBC already have a three-hour time limit.

This lot on High Street will be limited to three-hour parking starting June 1, 2021.
“It’s been perfectly clear that if the employees and the business owners don’t park in the immediate area there is plenty of parking for all of the customers that may come around,” said Councillor Bob Stone, who is also council’s representative at the Downtown Huntsville BIA. “If we as a council can change these [lots] to three-hour parking and we specifically ask that the bylaw department enforce it strictly, heavily, constantly, the message will get through very quickly to the business owners and the staff that they need to park away and leave those spots for our visitors and customers.”
A list of public parking available in downtown Huntsville is posted at huntsville.ca.

Well , what a proactive approach to front line workers that ensure our tourists enjoy and have a good experience, how about designating a parking area for the downtown core employees where they could park without the threat of being ticketed or be towed away ! Says a lot what the council thinks of our permanent residents !
Ive been hoping that the town would grant parking passes for us residents who LIVE downtown but dont have parking spaces.
I used the Minerva parking lot all winter (wldv been towed from anywhere else).
Now Im parking behind the IDA on the street because its one of the rare places i can park that doesnt have a 3hr limit and is near my apartment…however, if i leave for wrk or shopping and someone else parks there I have nowher I can leave my car and have to keep moving it every 3 hrs or Ill get a ticket.
I desperately need a parking space and HAVE to drive to get to work. If the parking situation doesnt get bettr Ill have to move away (of course the cost of housing here is INSANE whch is a whole other issue).
A parking pass that I could put on my dash or hang on my rearview mirror would be SO helpful…i can’t afford to pay to get my car bck from towing all the time or for tickets for going over the 3hr limit and its hard to walk for blocks with groceries or laundry etc.
I live near Main and Centre, desperately in need of a parking space! :-S
