The past week has been a very busy one for local triathletes.
The Gravenhurst Triathlon was held on July 13-14 in near-perfect racing weather. In the Sprint Triathlon, the top local male was Anthony Shearing placing first in his 50-55 age group (AG) and seventh overall with a time of 1:10.34. The top Huntsville female was Kaitlyn Baker with a first in her 35-39 AG and the sixth female overall. Carolyn Croxall stood second to Kaitlyn in the 35-39 AG with a time of 1:21.15. Carl Tusz stood fourth in his 25-29 AG posting a time of 1:20.01. Brian Gray stood fourth in his 55-59 AG with a 1:23.10 posting and Don McCormick placed first in his 75+ AG with a time of 1:32.45. Leigh Fettes was sixth in her 45-49 AG (1:35.11) and Stacy Tinkler placed 17th in the same AG (1:52.23). Alley Szukalski placed 15th in her 30-34 AG (1:45.36).
In the Sprint Duathlon, Kat Ahokas placed third in the 30-39 AG (1:13.38) and Sierra Johnson stood third in the 20-29 AG (1:34.26).
On the Saturday Nathan Forestall stood third in his 20-24 AG in the Olympic Distance triathlon (2:38.46). The Olympic distance is twice the Sprint distance.
On the previous weekend, July 7, the Ironman 70.3 Muskoka race was held in Huntsville. This has become a huge event with over 1750 people registered. Again the weather was excellent for racing.
Jon Morton was the top local athlete with a fifth place finish in the M35-39 and 18th overall (4:28:34). Mark Sinnige was close behind with a third place finish in the M50-54 (4:45:45). Jess Adam, triathlete and triathlon coach to several local athletes ,was the top local female with third in the F45-49 (5:09:27). She was the 20th female overall. Roger Penney was not far behind with a time of 5:17:16, good enough for a 19th place in the M50-54. Erin Creasor stood 13th in the F25-29 AG (5:45:55) and Jess Craymer placed 14th in the F25-29 AG with a time of 5:46:55. Erin Roebuck had a 37th place finish in the F35-39 (6:41:30) and Catherine Zacal finished 36th in the F45-49 with a 6:52:05 posting. Allan Bruce rounded the local entries with a 58th place in the M55-59 (7:29:44).
The local triathletes will be competing in the upcoming Bracebridge, Barrie, Orillia triathlons and other events over the summer.
