The Town of Huntsville is looking for input on Pitman’s Bay

Pitman’s Bay is a municipally owned and maintained 88-acre property located on Mary Lake, a short five minute drive from Huntsville. The facilities on site include a main building, washrooms, a beach, and a pergola with picnic tables. The Pitman’s Bay property currently has restraints on the usage from an agreement dating back to 1951, including a management board.

To better understand who uses the property and how the property should be used in the future, the Town of Huntsville is conducting a survey and hosting a public consultation event. The feedback received will help inform Town staff and their recommendation to Council on permitted uses and agreements that govern the Pitman’s Bay property.

Want a say in how Pitman’s Bay will be used in the future? Take the survey below! The survey closes on September 1, 2023.

  1. I think it should be open to the public. I have lived here in Huntsville for 27 years and didn’t know that it existed. The town is drawing people here then giving them nothing to do. There are very few places for the public to go swimming or have a picnic. The big east has beautiful beaches but they are all private. Hutchinson Beach is great but small for the amount of people that have to use it. Avery beach isn’t really a beach at all. They can go out to Algonquin but after you have just spent 3 to 5 in a car now you have to drive for another hour to get to a beach. Unless they can afford the rent for a huge house on the water. So where do all the people in the hotels go. Nowhere to go for a outside day. Thank you Suzanne Thompson

Pretty simple solution. Affordable housing. Free land keeps costs lower.

Other alternative is swap these 88 acres of prime land for 500 acres elsewhere.
