Swimming advisory for Port Sydney Beach (July 15, 2021)

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has issued another swimming advisory for Port Sydney Beach.

An advisory is a warning to swimmers but it is not a beach closure. Warning signs are posted when the water contains levels of bacteria that may increase risk of developing minor skin, eye, ear, nose and throat infections and stomach disorders. If you choose to swim during an advisory, avoid ducking your head or swallowing the water.

The Town of Huntsville will monitor the situation in accordance with the advice of the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit and will notify residents when the advisory is lifted.

We had signed up for swimming lessons at the Port Sydney beach. Although they were quickly moved to the Hutcheson Beach in Huntsville, it was very disappointing to not be able to swim at our local beach.
The beach is currently covered with goose feces, and requires many hours of cleanup. I don’t see our beach being safe for use unless this problem is solved.
Now also don’t get me started on the portable bathrooms at the Hutcheson beach. There is no amount of hand sanitizer that will make gloss feel sanitary to use…

When will they realize that the ducks and geece are using the grass by the public beach as their personal bathroom. It really is disgusting.
