A message from the Town of Huntsville

In light of the current situation related to COVID-19, Town of Huntsville residents are advised of the following modified levels of service as determined by Council:

Street Sweeping – Street sweeping will continue to occur with a minimum reduction in schedule.

Dust Suppression – At this time dust suppression has been postponed to 2021.

Capital Road Construction Projects – Will continue as scheduled if contractors are able to demonstrate that worker safety is not at risk and social distancing can be accomplished.

Flowers – Town of Huntsville BIA and Huntsville Horticultural Society will work together to ensure raised flower beds downtown are planted and maintained.

King William Project – Is planned to continue as scheduled with added safety measure for the workers to ensure social distancing is accomplished.

As you know, there is quite a disparity in the cost of the King William St. reconstruction; dependent upon several Council decisions. Presumably, those decisions have been made (although no report from either the District or the Town has been forthcoming). That said, none of the alternatives can be even 50% completed with the $1M budget allotment.

So I guess that my question, is: has the budget been increased?; or what has been postponed (for the time being)? I’m concerned about the safety issue; particularly the sidewalks (which have to be partially broken up and infilled).
