Christmas merriment was brought to Fairvern nursing home Friday, and even the big guy in red made a special visit to the residents.
Members of the community dressed up their cars and came full of the Christmas spirit, from cars playing the classic holiday tunes, horns, and hollers, the residents were glowing with appreciation and excitement.
While most of the residents and staff watched from their rooms or the dining room, the few who braved the cold were giddy with excitement and full of smiles. Debbie, one of the residents who came outside, was armed with her jingle bells and decked out with her red hat. At the end of the parade, Debbie shared that her favourite part of the parade was seeing Santa.
Volunteers and staff say that they are beyond grateful for the participation and support they receive from the community, especially at this time of year.
The District of Muskoka posted on its Facebook page a special thank you to all of those who came out in the poor weather to help spread holiday cheer.
The Fairvern Community Parade may have been short and sweet, but the memories will last a lifetime.
As the community is moving past COVID-19 restrictions, people are seeing events like drive-by celebrations continue—showing that there were good things in the bad that was the pandemic. A drive-by Christmas Parade for the residents at Fairvern is an event worth bringing back again and again.
