A message from the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit
Pre-registration for select eligible groups as per the province’s Phase 1 roll out plan is now open on the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit’s (SMDHU) website.
Eligible groups who can pre-register include highest, very high and high priority frontline health care workers in accordance with the Ministry of Health’s Guidance on Health Care Worker Prioritization; essential caregivers of residents in long-term care and retirement homes; all Indigenous adults and their household members; and adult recipients of chronic home care. To pre-register, or for more information about COVID-19 and the vaccine roll out visit www.smdhu.org.
Pre-registration helps us collect information about appointments quickly and easily as vaccine supply becomes available. Once a person has pre-registered on the SMDHU website, they will be placed in the queue to receive a vaccine appointment. When an appointment is available, the person will be sent an email invitation from the province with a booking code to book their appointment on the provincial booking system. Note that this does not happen immediately and may take days or weeks depending on vaccine supply and demand for appointments. All appointment booking in Simcoe Muskoka will be done through the online provincial system.
Please note that adults 80 years of age and older (born anytime in 1941 or prior) are also eligible at this time; however, they cannot pre-register via SMDHU’s website. They will be able to book immunization appointments directly via the online provincial booking system or by telephone contact to provincial customer service desk being launched by the province next week. The details on this booking process will be communicated by the province as their booking process becomes available.
“More than 52,000 doses of vaccine have already been administered in Simcoe Muskoka, offering protection to those most vulnerable, including the residents of all of our long-term care facilities and retirement homes, as well as many health care workers, older adults, and Indigenous older adults,” said Dr. Charles Gardner, SMDHU’s medical officer of health. “We are now transitioning into the final chapter of Phase 1, another important step in bringing the pandemic under control.”

I received my 1st shot of Pfizer on March 5th,2021 in Orillia.
It was the 2nd day and the date for the 2nd shot was not given, due to the new rule that 16 weeks would be the time for the 2nd shot.
Simcoe muskoka still has not given any info re 2nd shot after 2 months. With the shortage of vaccine and preference being given to certain areas, I am concerned the older population is being left out. I am 90 years old in 2021
When we will receive date for 2nd necessary vaccine and will I receive the Pfizer vaccine that I received the first time.
I received my 1st shot of Pfizer on March 3,
2021. It was the 1st day the date for the 2nd shot was not given, due to the new rule that 16 weeks would be the time for the 2nd shot. ( Pfizer has maintained this is too long from the start).

When we will receive date for 2nd necessary vaccine?
Fri. March 26th 2021 I got on the site and there was 3 appointments open . I got one right away .Maybe the reason some can not get on is that there are no appointments open .
I too have been trying to access the pre-registration site with no success, unable to get the form, as well our age group is not listed except to say shots are supposed to be available from April to July. My wife has recall failure and we would like to get our shots ASAP. Navigation of the web site is frustrating. Called SMDHU no success there either. HUMMMMMMM
I checked the website to try and schedule an appointment for my covid shot. To my surprise my age group is not on the list (66-79). Are we not eligible for the needle.
Well guess what…I snagged an appointment for my husband in Sundridge March 23 with 2nd dose July 13 .The clinic is being held at the arena.
I too accessed the new website at 0801, (the 14,038th person to so do, with 5000 odd ahead of me) and made it through in about thirty minutes. Yes, I got as far as page two, which said no clinics, but that they had captured our information. I assume that the system has put these requests into queue, and when the clinic dates are input, that I should receive an e-mail. Otherwise, they will be driving people to log in multiple times, the exact opposite of what the system designers were trying to avoid, since that is a key factor in system crashes…
Hmmmm…..hurry up and wait…
Hi Jane,
There have been issues with the booking system today (see here: https://doppleronline.ca/huntsville/trying-to-book-a-vaccine-appointment-technical-issues-slow-inputs-to-blame/). The recommendation from the health unit is to try again later in the day.
Jane, I too was on the portal this morning. After trying twice to get an appointment for my Mom in either Huntsville or Bracebridge and told their were no clinics scheduled in my area I tried Orillia and was able to book an appointment. Not sure what’s going on but it’s frustrating! Good luck!
SMDHU advised me to book on the Ontario Portal…..it took 2 hours. A pleasant lady told me there was no vaccines available in our area…..I am trying to book for my husband who is immune compromised because of chemotherapy he had earlier in the year.Does anyone know how to get an “INVITATION “ for the vaccine?
I am an Adult recipient of chronic home care. My second vaccine is scheduled. However, my home care worker who is considered high priority was not able to book her second vaccine, which would be due on March 31st. It is very important that she not wait for 4 months to get her second shot. Can she be scheduled for March 31st?
Pre-registration information can be accessed directly from the Simcoe Muskoka health units home page. Go to https://www.simcoemuskokahealth.org and click on Covid 19. However, the actual registration form, or a link to the form, is not yet available. I phoned the health unit today (March 13) for clarification and was told the form will be on-line within the next few days.
