Traditionally, a 20th anniversary brings gifts of china, but at Robinson’s Your Independent Grocer today, they gifted some happy customers groceries instead.
At just before 5pm, store staff let lines of shoppers accumulate at checkout and then, as a band played and confetti rained down, roped off the lines while store owner Randy Robinson announced that all those within the roped-off area would get their purchase up to $250 for free.
Every hour throughout the day, the store issued a variety of challenges to customers, too – be the first to sing That’s Amore at the hot meals counter, or be the first to say the name of the store mascot – with winners receiving a $100 gift card.
There was face painting for the kids, and it wouldn’t have been a party without cake, of course.
The store’s 20th anniversary coincided with the Loblaws Market Moments promotion, and they thought it was the perfect way to say thank you to their loyal customers.
