Required Main Street sidewalk repairs a normal occurrence: Town

The Town of Huntsville is advising that repairs to the Main Street sidewalk from Brunel to Centre Street are tentatively scheduled to begin after the May long weekend (the week of May 23). Exact dates are in the process of being finalized, however, the repairs may take up to two weeks for completion with minimal disruption to pedestrians.

The new sidewalks have experienced deficiencies that require repairs. This is a normal occurrence and process for any construction or building project. The repairs will include taking up affected sidewalk panels, testing the gravel base beneath the sidewalk, and fixing any issues observed.

Residents are advised that Downtown Huntsville businesses continue to remain open and Main Street remains open to traffic and pedestrians. Please follow all posted signage throughout construction to navigate sidewalks.

More information will be communicated as it becomes available, according to the municipality.

Despite the town’s best efforts, and I have seen how much work it is to try to get a manhole cover (oh! sorry. a “person” hole these days) nice and level with the street, winter just seems to do it’s yearly work faster than repairs get done. I’m not in charge or privy to budgets so no further comment other than I wonder, that when we know this fact, why do we not do our utmost to get these access covers located not in the traffic lanes?

As a minor point of interest, you know the pothole was invented in Port Cunnington. They have perfected it on road 22 over many years of research and now export them all over the world. Lake of Bays is proud to have such a resource in their township.

Seriously, winter always does this and rain just makes it all worse and harder to patch. I’m sure the town employees are hard at work on this.

And the contractor pays 100 percent of the cost correct?
Let me be clear the taxpayer through the town or the district pays zero dollars correct?. A job of this magnitude typically has a percentage held back for a period of 1 or 2 years to include deficiencies in the work or work not completed etc etc. Like what’s the deal on King William between Scott st and Muskoka landing. I think if you look in the sunken asphalt around the manhole covers you will find 2 of my wheels and most of the front suspension from my car.

Ok .. no worries . All the other roads and sidewalks in town will just have to wait for another 3 or 4 or 5 years to get repaired.. (eye roll) or maybe the town can send out the ” patch and stamp” crews again this year…. Meanwhile we all get the crap beat out of our vehicles trying to miss the potholes and what appears to be launching pads that used to be manhole covers… Good job Huntsville… Good bloody job….

Deficiencies? Really. Did the town employees not complete inspections during construction.

Just what the downtown merchants needed.
Along with little parking, no public toilets and high prices, how do
any of them stay in business?
The downtown is what makes Huntsville what it is. Pity!
