Power outages, downed trees and huge amounts of snow hit area

There are hundreds of customers without power in Huntsville, according to Hydro One’s outage map. Municipalities such as Huntsville, Lake of Bays and the District of Muskoka have declared a Significant Weather Event, which means they are not legally responsible for the amount of time it takes to clear the roads as crews work hard to make them passable.

Major highways in the province have closed and the OPP is pleading with people to stay off the roads as first responders attend to hundreds of accidents.

Huntsville transit services have been suspended and all waste facilities are closed today. Church services have also been cancelled and The Torchlight Parade scheduled for tonight at Hidden Valley Highlands Ski Area has been cancelled due to unsafe road conditions. Operations are expected to resume tomorrow (Christmas Day) at the ski hill.

Meanwhile, crews are working hard to clear snow from highways and roads, clear downed trees, and restore power to those without electricity while both residents and visitors to the area dig their way out. Snow accumulation is expected to continue until Sunday and Environment Canada has issued a snow blizzard warning.

All those people who were complaining that there was no snow… I have some extra shovels for you.

I kind of wanted a bit more snow, but I did not really want the entire winter’s worth of it to come in one day!
