Those living around Etwell and Aspdin roads may be saved from having to drive to town for a bag of milk.
At its January 16 meeting, Huntsville’s Planning Committee approved a planning application to allow a two-storey variety & convenience store with an accessory dwelling unit within the second storey on lands at 33 Etwell Road.
The lot has an area of approximately 4,168m², as well as 75m of frontage on Aspdin Road and 100m of frontage on Etwell Road. The lands are currently vacant. The proposed two-storey structure would be about 355m² with an apartment above and the access would be from Etwell Road.

“I’m sure almost all of us have stared at this property driving down Aspdin Road at some point and thought what could go there…,” said Graeme Huizinga, planning consultant with Tulloch Engineering representing the applicant Jan Nyquist. Huizinga said he often thought a convenience store would work well there and said that is exactly what Nyquist was thinking of. “I do think it’s a great spot for that type of activity. It sounds like a lot of the property owners in the area can see the benefit of something like that as well,” he said referring to the letters submitted to the Town in favour of the application.
Councillor Monty Clouthier agreed and said it was greatly needed out there. Councillor Dione Schumacher said it would be a great job for someone as well.
Planning Council approved the application.

This is great news. Having to drive past this parcel of land for over 40 years, I’ve always invisioned it as the perfect location for this much needed service. My neighbours and I will definitely become frequent customers. In the perfect world there would also be a gas station, but I guess gas stations might have a finite future.
