Members of the co-op received a letter from the board noting the doors would be closing on July 18, 2026.
“We have been working hard to adapt to the changes after our expansion project but we were not properly prepared for the increases to our operating costs following that project. We have had many challenges and it seems like each time we surpassed one challenge, another would arise,” states the letter.
“The staff and Board have worked collectively through all of these challenges over the past year and a half and we have come to this decision together after many conversations and strategy sessions,” adds the letter.
It states that a members’ meeting will be held on July 9, 2026, at the co-op at 6:15 p.m. to “dissolve the Co-op.” Members who want to join online should contact the co-op for a link.

I was at the Co-op yesterday (Saturday) and their doors were already locked. Apparently there is an interim Board of Directors that has been appointed. Seems like the future of the co-op is unknown. Very sad for our town to see them close.
I think that somewhere in the not too distant past, the comment was made that the Co-Op was intended to be a go to place for good, local food at affordable prices. For a while it sure was. But then it slowly became a ‘too pricey market’. ‘Farmer’s Market’ prices are not food depot prices ‘nor are they for the general populace. I heard someone comment it was a ‘yuppie market’.
Marcia Frost: You seem to infer that this failure of the ‘Good Food Co-op’ is the result of sinister action by the government. The Feds. invested $535,000.00 into ‘Good Food’ so it “could purchase new equipment and expand”. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out. But explain to me how an infusion of half a million dollars caused the business to fail? It seems to me it would have been easier to not give them the money. And
cheaper.
As for the “more sad news coming dwn the pipe line”. Maybe so. But flesh the comment out a bit. Examples? So we can evaluate the veracity of your ‘pipeline’ to the future.
America is not my enemy. But ‘the donald’ ( the American leader) is the antithesis of most everything I was taught. Maybe not an enemy but a pariah in my world. And a pain in the ass for a good portion of the rest of the world.
Another victim of our govts horribl economic policies tht punish business owners, forcing SO MANY to leave or close up…America is not our enemy folks, this Trudeau govt is, dont frget he was advised by Carney the last few yrs he was in office aka, the WORST yrs of his as PM… and Carneys jst continueing the destruction of our economy while tryng to convince you this is all new and Americas fault (we WERE warned by officials in the UK and a WEF whistleblower about Carneys motives, too only take care of Brookfield and his personal investmnts, NOT our citizens)….pls dont be distracted by the fear mongering, more are on the verge of collapse and losng everythng thnks to ths liberal govt…mch more sad news coming dwn the pipe Im afraid😞

I breaks my heart that this wonderful organization is closing down.
The Good Food Co-op provided not only excellent food and food products but also a lovely warm community atmosphere..
I had the honour of being a board member for a few years. All meetings were run professionally.
I think that the whole town will miss it.
