June 9, 1946-June 7, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Cindy Jane Begin (nee Pinckard) at her home in Brighton, Ontario, on June 7th, 2026 – just two days before her 80th birthday.
Cindy spent her final days surrounded by the love of family and friends. She was accompanied by her son, Steven Harris, and had recently enjoyed visits from her brother Tom Pinckard (Dayle), sister Anne Peters (Sandy) and brother Will Pinckard. She was also comforted by cherished friends who spent time with her in the weeks leading up to her passing.
Cindy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jim Begin, and leaves behind her son Steven, as well as her stepchildren Paul Begin, Noel Begin, and Claire Taylor, as well as her dear friend and brother-in-law Father Paul Begin. She was the proud Grandmother of Noah and Aaylaih Seyen
Born in Hamilton, Ontario, on June 9, 1946, Cindy’s life was one of curiosity, learning, and meaningful connections. She lived in Waterdown, Rio de Janeiro, Oakville, Newmarket, Orangeville, Dwight, and finally Brighton, embracing each community she called home.
Her passion for education led her to Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, BC, Ashland College in Ashland, WI, and Brock University in St. Catharines, where she earned her teaching certification. After a 10-year teaching career (during which she taught her younger brother Will!), Cindy held various interesting positions, ultimately concluding her career in government at the Ministry of Tourism and Recreation in Huntsville.
Retirement did not slow her down. Cindy worked part-time at Lighthouse Books in Brighton, where she delighted in sharing her love of literature with customers. She also devoted many years of volunteer service as secretary of the Ratepayers Association for many years.
Cindy will be remembered as a quick-witted, compassionate, and generous woman. She had an infectious sense of humour, and a masterful command of the English language. Brains, beauty, and superior intelligence—Cindy had it all! She left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her and will be deeply missed by many.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Erin Gow for her compassionate care and steadfast support throughout Cindy’s illness. They are also deeply grateful to VON nurses Samantha and Lindsay, who cared for Cindy daily. She asked for little but enjoyed exemplary care from all who attended to her needs. May she rest in peace.
The family will announce a celebration for Cindy at a date to be determined.
