Traci McIlroy, if you were sworn at it would have been because you initiated a confrontation when being informed that the lot was for patrons only. The only reason why all criminal charges were subsequently dropped against me was precisely because there was not a single mark on the motorcycle belonging to the biker who smashed both my truck mirrors and ripped off my driver’s door handle while he was trying to get to me in my vehicle. I did not hit anyone’s motorcycle, let alone “three times” as you falsely claim.

While we all can appreciate a very-carefully-worded sob story, those of us that grew up here can also see a clear case of, “You reap what you sow.”

I have had the pleasure of being sworn at by Mike Peters in his parking lot. It is not clearly marked one cannot park in the parking lot! I also witnessed the recent event when Mike was once again yelling profanities at people in the parking lot. I understand it is his property but perhaps he should fence it off or charge people to park. Yelling and swearing at people is not a healthy hobby. I did witness Mike drive his pickup truck into the motorcycle as he was driving to the food truck. The guy attempted to move away from the truck and Mike drove into him three times. This is getting really old and embarrassing for our town. These are people coming to spend time and money in our beautiful community.

2500 warnings: about 7 a day, rain or shine. Does sound rather tiresome. But apparently an owner with a rather abrasive demeanor might find a place to apply that old adage of “flies with sugar than with vinegar”.

I do find it odd that ripping off mirrors and the door handle of a vehicle was overlooked by the law. I can remember that the cry “He started it!” never got me away with anything. Likely a pop on the ear. I believe that property damage is property damage. It sure is when vandals rip up town property! Why not in this case?

And it is the mans property, though I don’t seem to remember how well posted that fact is. I do remember that certain members of our town council remarked that: “It’s their property. They can do as they like with it.” Or something pretty much like that; when developers chose to strip sections of our town..

It’s easy to see how a big lot close to businesses that need more space than they have, can be a problem. Even the Town has made overtures for the use of that lot. Having a bunch of people complaining about not being able to access such a big empty space might tip attitudes just a bit. Kinda’ like poking the bear. Then blaming the bear.

Every fall when the leaves turn, and the ‘wannaseeums’ show up, by the thousands! lots of folks are more than a little disgruntled when their lanes, yards, beaches, roads and even docks are strayed upon by the so-entitled or conveniently-oblivious. Then, the protection of property rights are loudly proclaimed.

    Because it’s private property!

The Doppler article fails to mention that the 250 lb. biker alleging “assault” smashed both my passenger and driver’s side mirrors with his closed fist before ripping off my driver’s door handle while attempting to get at me in my locked truck. He was attempting to drive back into my lot after already being non-trespassed, yet the Huntsville O.P.P. laid no charges against him.

Each season, approximately 2,500 people are personally forewarned that they will be towed from our private property for valid and legitimate reasons. Most are understanding and compliant; but some have been extremely belligerent, defiant and hostile. I have lost count of the number of times that either I or the three (3) other individuals in my employment who have policed the lot have been assaulted or had our lives threatened. On one such occasion, three summers ago, Constable Mackay of the Huntsville O.P.P. was on her phone with her staff sergeant for over twenty minutes, after which she was advised to inform me that “if the police had to come back to my lot again, I would be going away with them”. Sure enough, the following summer, I was physically assaulted in front of two witnesses, yet despite this and clear video evidence that was taken, I was charged with “causing a disturbance” while the individual who assaulted me was let go without any charges at all. The charges against me were subsequently thrown out by the Crown.

For the record I, unequivocally, committed no indictable offence whatsoever and will vehemently fight the bad charges which have been brought against me. I will continue to protect my private property rights from the self-entitled for as long as I am the owner.

Definitely a sign of a territorial problem. But then again I see many private property, no trespassing, and keep out signs all around Huntsville.

I agree with the doctor..I witnessed this behaviour and suspect it tells tourists downtown Huntsville is not some place to go…maybe he should put up parking meters on his dilapidated parking lot to cover costs..that would definitely make money and allow more downtown guests…tourist and locals alike!

About time! This guy is a menace to people trying to support the businesses in and around his precious parking lot. Glad to see that Algonquin Cafe moved to a friendlier locale. Perhaps the other businesses should follow suit! I can’t imagine the headache that Canvas has to deal with on a daily basis.
