The Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire on Meadow Park Drive in the Town of Huntsville around 9 a.m.
Crews encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from a second-floor apartment upon arrival. The fire was quickly knocked down and contained to the unit of origin. Other areas in the building suffered smoke damage. One person was assessed at the scene for smoke inhalation by Muskoka Paramedic Services and released.
Muskoka Victim Services was contacted and have provided their service for the five displaced occupants of the building.
The fire is believed to have started in an electrical appliance and is not deemed suspicious. Damage to the building and contents is estimated at $250,000.

The image supplied by the fire department, which appears in full in the body of this post, is too large to appear in the header. The ceiling fan image is simply a cropped version and is not meant to imply that it’s where the fire started. The fire department has not specified the type of appliance.
Curious, did the fire start in the ceiling fan? Your article just says in an “appliance” so I’m wondering if the burnt ceiling is just for show or if it really started in the fan?
It would be nice to know if there is potential for ceiling fans to start fires and if so what to watch out for as there are a lot of ceiling fans out there.
