When you need information about your property taxes, like payment information, duplicate bills, or tax certificates, there’s just one place to go: Town Hall. But that could change in the new year with the implementation of a new tax portal that Town staff say would provide easier access to information.
According to the staff report presented to General Committee at its October 31 meeting, with the new portal Huntsville taxpayers would be able to access their account balances, print statements relating to their accounts, and make tax payments online. At a later date, if a separate accounts receivable module is purchased, lawyers will, for a fee, be able to request tax certificates online.
To access the portal, taxpayers will use their property’s roll number along with a PIN that would likely be issued via the interim tax bill.
Mayor Scott Aitchison, for one, said he was “ecstatic” about the pending portal. “It’s been a long time coming,” he said. “I’m very pleased that we’re doing this and I hope that it is the beginning of a much broader and a whole lot more opportunities for the taxpayers to access information online.”
The approximate cost for the iCity program and implementation is $6,050—$3,250 for the software, $1,720 for its implementation, and $650 for the annual fee—with funds coming from the Town’s Property Tax Stabilization Reserve. The Town of Huntsville currently uses an iCity financial reporting system.

So the people that don’t have access to the net will still be able to go to townhall right? And get a bill in the mail? Some people don’t have net.
