Huntsville Town Councillor Helena Renwick has officially announced her candidacy for Muskoka District Council in the upcoming municipal election.
In a letter to residents, Renwick said she is seeking election to represent the community she and her family have called home for the past 30 years.
“This community has been home to my family for 30 years,” Renwick said. “My husband Cameron and I raised our three children here, and over the years I’ve had the privilege of serving Huntsville in many different ways—through volunteer work, community organizations, and most recently on Huntsville Town Council.”
Renwick is currently serving on council and has held leadership roles as Vice Chair of Corporate Services and Co-Chair of Community Services. She said her experience in municipal government has reinforced her belief in the importance of thoughtful and community-focused leadership.
During her time on council, Renwick said she has worked to support responsible decision-making, sound budgeting, and programs designed to strengthen the community. She also pointed to her involvement with local business, arts, and heritage organizations as helping her develop a broader understanding of the issues affecting both Huntsville and the wider Muskoka region.
Renwick said her decision to seek a seat at the District level is driven by concerns about the future of the region and the challenges ahead.
“Muskoka is facing important decisions about housing, infrastructure, environmental stewardship, and the services people rely on every day,” she said. “I want to bring experience, balance, and a strong commitment to community to those conversations at the District level.”
She indicated that she will be outlining her platform and priorities in the coming weeks, but wanted to formally announce her intentions and begin connecting with voters.
“I am excited to be putting my name forward and would be grateful for your encouragement and support,” Renwick stated in an open letter to residents.

Ms Renwick: This of course is not personal, per se. But do you or your immediate family derive income from or invested in real estate beyond your family home? In particular, do you own rental properties (long term or STRs) or commercial real estate?
