A 34-year-old Huntsville woman has been sentenced after pleading guilty to fraud and impaired driving-related charges in a Bracebridge courtroom.
Court heard that the fraud investigation began after the Huntsville OPP received a complaint from a business regarding money taken from a bank account and re-cashed by a former employee. The investigation determined that Karissa Schamehorn had deposited seven cheques through mobile banking that had already been cashed, resulting in a total loss of approximately $4,500.
The court also heard details of a separate impaired driving incident that occurred on July 13, 2024. Ontario Provincial Police were called to Williamsport Road after receiving a report of a vehicle parked on the shoulder of the roadway. Officers located Schamehorn passed out inside the vehicle.
Police further discovered she was in possession of cocaine. During the investigation, Schamehorn refused to provide a blood sample as required by police.
Following her guilty pleas, Schamehorn was sentenced to a suspended sentence and placed on 18 months of probation for the fraud offence.
For the impaired driving matter, she was fined $2,000 and prohibited from driving for 12 months.

What???? A slap on the wrist ? This woman has got away with what,a normal persons sentence would be yrs in prison. I often wonder if these ppl are not cooperating with authorities. The sentences are just too light.
WOW!!! 2 years SUSPENDED license. Such harsh treatment for someone who’s only crimes threatened the lives of decent, innocent people AND stole from an innocent person..
Might the public, you know, the innocent and decent people who were certainly not considered in this case, be better served if this offender were given a condo in, say, Florida or Getmo where she would not be a threat to the innocent and decent people of Huntsville.
Thanks for something. I guess finding her NOT guilty on all charges was the alternative.
I believe the “justice system” could use just a trace of an over haul.
Deterrence? .Ludicrous ineffective sentences mean repeat offenders. Protect the Public not the felons !
