It is ridiculous to blame voters for the failure of the electronic voting system! Those who are responsible for setting up the system need to ensure that it is robust enough to handle the volume that should be expected on voting day! Many voters, especially those with children have busy lives and may not find the time until voting day arrives! The news just reported that over 50 municipalities have had to extend voting for another day because of server systems being overwhelmed with the heavy voter volume!
My husband and I many several attempts to cast our votes online about a week ago. We could not get to the correct site to do this even though we followed the internet address to the letter. We are rural and high speed internet not available to us. So we tried the phone line. Be aware the phone message will ask for the last 8 numbers of your voting ID (so count backwards quickly :0(
Finally after 3 attempts on the phone did not complete because message said PIN # not valid. Grrrrrr.
We were ready to say forget it but decided to make the trip into town and seek help at the Town Offices. This finally worked as we got on line and cast our votes with the minimum of help from staff.
We are seniors and pretty experienced on the computer but still would prefer to cast out votes at a polling station.
Well done those people who sat down with their coffee and cast their votes on line quickly and easily. We would certainly have enjoyed aimless chatter in a line if necessary to cast a vote. Sorry our story so long but hope it will make a few people smile cos all’s well that ends well.
Don’t disagree with you, but if you have until 8pm to vote the system needs to be able to accept all votes up to 8pm, without major delays and crashes. Does not matter if people left it to the last minute their vote needs to count if they are trying to cast it.
bravo Erin!
like you I brought my coffee across the room to my computer, logged on and voted, all while still in the comfort of my home. This style of voting is and was so easy with no problem from my end; no need to find a parking spot, wait in line listening to endless chatter and then finding that your name isn’t on the list!
Oh, come on, people! Everyone had TEN DAYS to vote and up till yesterday, apparently only 24% of eligible voters had cast their ballots! And NOW we need to extend the voting period because the elections computers are all clogged up?! I voted the first day–it was very easy and quick. You mean to tell me that, in the last ten days, 76% of the people couldn’t take five minutes to vote (from the comfort of their homes, no less)? Sorry, but that’s pathetic. All of you in the 76% need to take yourself out to the woodshed and give yourselves a talking-to.
Isn’t this the second time that electronic voting experienced a major SNAFU? I’m totally in favour of polling booth voting! I voted online and did not find it convenient! Electronics and I are not the most compatible. After I had entered my voting ID and PIN I was asked (told) to enter the security numbers THREE times!!!! I almost gave up. Convenient? Nah!
I voted online last week. It was quick and easy.
Painful voting process! Easier and quicker to walk to polling station. Get to see your neighbors in the process.
