MP Scott Aitchison makes first comments in Parliament

Parry Sound-Muskoka MP Scott Aitchison made his first remarks in the House of Commons today, the opening day of the 43rd Parliament.

His comments, a Member’s Statement made just before Question Period, were a heartfelt plea to all MPs to work together for the benefit of Canadians.

“To the people of Parry Sound-Muskoka and all Canadians, I have a simple message today: it is time for all of us to start working together,” he began.

Aitchison referenced a bitter election campaign that left the country divided, and added, “In this minority Parliament I hope that we will tone down the rhetoric, turn up the positivity, and take up the good work of nation-building.”

He called on MPs to find common ground and commit to finding solutions to housing problems and “the very real challenge of climate change,” and added that “we need to get all levels of government, along with the private sector, working together.”
