MAHC to receive an additional $3.19 million from the province

On October 21, Norman Miller, MPP for Parry Sound-Muskoka, announced additional funding for local hospitals including $3.19 million for Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC).

“Our government recognizes that medium-sized hospitals were struggling under the funding formula so this funding is designed to ensure our local hospitals have the resources they need to meet the needs of our community,” said Miller in a media release. “This new investment in Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare will help deliver on our commitment to end hallway health care.”

The funding is part of a $68 million province-wide boost being given to small- and medium-sized hospitals. This new investment is in addition to the extra $384 million included for hospitals as part of the province’s 2019 budget.

“This announcement is great news for our communities in Muskoka and area, and helps MAHC to ease our operating pressures,” added MAHC CEO Natalie Bubela. “We appreciate the ongoing advocacy by Mr. Miller for our medium-sized, multi-site hospital and the support of the North Simcoe Muskoka LHIN, Minister of Health and provincial government in affording us to focus on what we do best—providing outstanding integrated health care to our communities.”

Thank you Norm Miller for the support you have given us in this area. My husband and I live in the outskirts of Magnetewan, so a trip to hospital for an emergency is a long way, and the care we get asap is vital. We are grateful that there will be two hospitals one Huntsville and the second in Bracebridge with extra funding coming our way…time to get on with the projects..

This is not meant to do anything about new hospitals this is just a helping hand right now we are years away from a new hospital if it happens.

It’s all good, but please don’t regard it as anything more than the small change it is. It DOES NOT represent any incentivization toward two new hospitals within a 100 K catchment. With respect, please don’t drink the Kool Aid.
