Graydon Smith’s campaign team said today that the MPP hopeful has received endorsements from ten current and former elected leaders from across Parry Sound-Muskoka.

“These endorsements are a reflection of my ability to lead, work collaboratively and get things done,” said Smith. “I’m proud that these outstanding community leaders from across the riding—regardless of party affiliation—have come forward to publicly endorse my candidacy.”

Current Huntsville mayor, Karin Terziano, along with former Huntsville mayors Scott Aitchison, Claude Doughty, Hugh Mackenzie, Len Clarke and Ron House have endorsed Smith. Bracebridge acting mayor, Rick Maloney; Mayor of Seguin Township, Ann MacDiarmid; Mayor of Burk’s Falls, Cathy Still; and District of Muskoka Chair, John Klinck, have also endorsed Smith.

“Parry Sound-Muskoka needs an MPP with the ability and experience to work alongside municipal leaders and to advocate on behalf of our communities at the decision making table in Toronto,” Smith said. “This distinguished list of leaders recognize what’s at stake for our riding and they know that I’m the candidate most able to deliver real, positive results for Parry Sound-Muskoka.”

The thread of the debate over who should be the next MPP for Muskoka is missing one key component. The party platforms. The Conservative supporters have trotted out every known Muskoka Conservative to support their cause. So be it.
I however wish to make up my own mind as to who to support. I do not blindly follow the opinions of others.
In order to make a reasoned judgement I have reviewed all the Party platforms and find the Green Party platform superior. It is thoughtful, comprehensive and well meaning. It touches base with the important issues facing Ontarian’s including affordability, health care, education, worker’s rights, racism, gender equity, government reform and climate change.

It is a document well worth reading prior to making a voting decision.

Disappointing. A long list of people who prefer prefer developers over community facilities and services. Large swaths of land clear cut for new building of homes, etc. with little regard for environmental or infrastructure consequences, and insufficient schools, hospitals or recreation facilities to serve the exploding population. And clearly running scared or they wouldn’t be jumping on this bandwagon so late in the game. Vote Matt Richter.

I am really disgusted to think that the current Mayor of our town has thrown her hat into the ring when in the past she has clearly demonstrated the inability to maintain the affairs of Huntsville!! What have the Conservatives done in the past thirty years to improve the lives of the local citizens? Botched-up construction attempts on the Main street are one example of a Council led by her!!
Matt Richter and the Green Party have the solutions to make change possible in Parry Sound and Muskoka, so vote GREEN!

I fully support Ray and Kathy’s comments above.

Muskoka has become a developers’ haven from clear-cutting hilltops, to building a condo on a small parcel of riverside property (Burnel Road) in the FloodWay according to the Huntsville Flood Plan map (https://muskoka.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=df7168a37e2d41ecaf483a78f5363a6f), and there are so many other examples.

We need a solid plan for Parry Sound Muskoka and we need to elect those who work with other parties if this region is ever going to address the needs of the year-round residences.

Times Up for those who can’t even meet with fellow candidates, share their plans and debate the issues.

I have already cast my vote for Matt Richter and the Green Party!!

Just like Ford paving the greenbelt these are the people who are clear cutting Muskoka.
To turn Muskoka into Mississauga as fast as possible.
Trees in Bracebridge have needlessly been decimated on Smith’s watch.
And then the treed area left barren for years.
Across from Home Depot, near the high school and most recently Travelodge along the road where you can’t build anyway.
Toronto protects their trees better than Muskoka.
Vote Green to stop the destruction.

Local elected officials will need to advocate for Muskokans’ needs for supportive housing and truly affordable rental and home ownership that serves our economy and is consistent with the Climate Emergency they have declared. We have three years more, when we will be at the 1.5 degree global warming threshold. Will we be ready for increased drought, heat, food insecurity at the worst? What kind of future will we be building for your grandchildren to inherit?

I believe Graydon Smith has the: “ability and experience to work alongside municipal leaders and to advocate on behalf of our communities at the decision making table in Toronto”. Problem is, I for one do not trust Ford and company. I hope we have new and issue-oriented listeners, intelligent thinkers about the future and cross-party experts to deal with big problems, not agenda-oriented talkers. If he gets in, good luck getting Ford’s ear or a spot on his agenda. I voted for Matt.

It’s easy to announce a platform that please’s everyone ,not so easy to implement once elected. The past Mayor’s,whose feet have been held to the fire have endorsed Graydon Smith.I think this is very significant..Graydon comes with a very significant portfolio of political exsperiance, not to mention his ability to hold his own in any debate.Yes,these times are crazy after a two year pandemic and the over the top development in Muskoka | ParrySound. We need someone who can keep the lid on with exsperiance and strong leadership.By the way, nice picture your worship and thanks for all your hard work!

This is on the front page of today’s Toronto Star (Wednesday, June 1, 2022)

    STAR INVESTIGATION
“Private LTC homes to get billions in public funds. Tories allocating majority of beds to companies with some of the highest COVID death rates”

“We’ve just been through the worst mass tragedy in long-term care in a generation and those operators who were the worst, who were responsible for the most deaths, they’re now getting the most funding.” (Natalie Mehra, Executive Director of The Ontario Health Coalition)

Cast your vote wisely today, with the whole picture and future in mind.

It is very depressing to everyone concerned about the Climate Crisis and who has worked so hard to get Climate Emergency resolutions passed in Muskoka, to see 3 CURRENT MUNICIPAL LEADERS who committed to a greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction goal for the District and their municipalities of 50% by 2030, zero by 2050 only last year, now hitching their wagon to a PC party committed to gas expansion, highways, and sprawl for our province – all huge GHG emitters! Voters, it is time to put your vote where your values lie.

Very sad indeed. I thought that the Town officials were in favour of keeping Muskoka green. I should have known better, considering their propensity to hastily stamp any unaffordable dwelling building application.
