Wilf and Helen (nee Cairns) McQuinn were married at Madill Church in 1982. With that connection in mind, the couple has offered more than $40,000 to the Town of Huntsville for a columbarium at the adjacent cemetery.
The donation to cover the $42,865 (plus HST) installation cost is in memory of Wilf’s parents, Gladys and Bill McQuinn. In exchange, Wilf and Helen have requested one niche of their choosing within the columbarium once it is constructed.
The custom-made columbarium will provide an additional option for those who wish to have their final resting place at Madill Church Cemetery.
The proposed 48-niche columbarium would include an etched image of Madill Church.
A staff report presented at the Aug. 25 genersl committee meeting notes that if there is need for additional niches In the future “the fees paid would…offset any costs associated with construction of additional units over time. It is believed there will be
a demand for this type of final resting place at this location.”
Committee accepted the donation, with both Mayor Karin Terziano and Deputy Mayor Nancy Alcock calling it a wonderful gift for the Town.
The columbarium is slated for installation in 2022.
