Legion fundraising dinners resume for take-out only on September 1

The popular Huntsville Legion dinners are back—for take-out only—starting on Tuesday, September 1.

The Legion hopes to get back to a regular schedule for the dinners, which were on hiatus due to COVID-19, with funds raised going back into the Legion’s general account.

“The food is so good and it brings people to the local legion,” said vice president and membership chair, Mandi Boothby. “These events help keep the legion doors open.”

The COVID-19 pandemic has “pretty much brought the Legion to a halt via fundraising and getting to see fellow comrades,” added Boothby. “Until the numbers go up for gatherings we will struggle to open. We still do dinners and gift bags for our veterans and seniors.”

Boothby says that when they’re able to reopen, the sports, dances and Catch the Ace events will return.

In the meantime, Tina Hamilton and her crew have a roast beef dinner planned for the September 1 take-out option, as it’s one of the most popular choices according to Legion guests. The meal will include roast beef, mashed potatoes, vegetables, and dessert for just $10.

Although reservations are not required, they are highly recommended in order to secure a meal. Email [email protected] to reserve.

The next dinner will be on October 6.

As of September 2, Boothby will be taking Legion dues at the branch. Hours will be posted on the Legion’s Facebook page, on Doppler, and on the building’s front door. Both cash and cheque will be accepted. The $60 membership dues can be paid online at legion.ca or in person until November 30, 2020. If you have any questions or concerns, call Mandi Boothby at 705-205-1739.
