Lake of Bays seeks public input on accessible parking at Dwight Beach

The Township of Lake of Bays is seeking input from the public and persons with disabilities on its proposal to install accessible on-street parking space at Dwight Beach, across from the boat launch.

“Pursuant to Section 80.39 of O.Reg. 191/11 under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005, the municipality is consulting with the public and persons with disabilities before creating an accessible on-street parking space on Dwight Beach Road,” states the release issued by the Township.

The Township’s 2024-2029 accessibility plan identifies the goal of implementing accessible parking at Dwight Beach this year.

All residents are encouraged to provide feedback. If you have any comments on how many spaces to make, where the spaces should be located, and/or how the spaces should be designed, please submit comments by September 6, 2024.

Comments can be submitted to April Best-Sararas, Director of Planning Services for the Township of Lake of Bays at 705-635-2272 ext. 1252 or via email at

The parking spot is already there, right? It needs no physical alteration. Any of the parking spots along the beach are as accessible as any other.
So all the township needs to do is put up a sign and paint the spot blue. Pick one or two and do it.
What is the big deal. In another few years I’ll probably be able to use it and when I do you can be sure I’ll thankfully remember the great consideration by the township in placing the spot there, just like at their office.
