The highway safety division of the Ontario Provincial Police is reminding Ontario residents that they’re still required to renew their vehicle registration, even though there is no fee and a sticker is not required on their plate.
You will not get a renewal notice in the mail from the Ontario Ministry of Transportation so it’s up to you to renew your registration, usually on or around your birthday. If you don’t you could get a ticket, according to the OPP.
Motorists can renew their registration online at this link.

Service Ontario: Thank you for signing up for reminders.
We’ll text you 60 and 30 days before the expiry date renewal
for license plates.
You can also renew online up to 90 days before your renewal is due.
Sounds simple enough? Check their web site.
This is exactly by design. They can make more money from us by not rending the renewal notices for your “free” renewal. They know you will forget and instead you get a $110 fine.
Also, they forgot to mention that they raised plate fees to offset this as well.
