At its December 12 meeting, Town engineering technician Brandon Hall recommended that bringing electrical services and heating to Lions Lookout be deferred until a more definitive plan is in place for the area; a plan taking user groups, community consultation as well as strategic plans into consideration.
“Council did direct staff to look at running electrical services and heating to Lions Lookout park as well as the building. We retained Dawson Electric to kind of make some sense of that request and how it can be done.” Hall said the preliminary estimate for bringing electricity to the park ranged from $50,000 to $300,000. Staff also reached out to another contractor to determine how to heat the building and it was determined that the building, currently used as storage, does need a bit of work.
“So staff got together and we feel that the best option is to look at an overall concept plan before we actually run services to there. The last thing you want to do is run a 200 amp service and realize a year from now we want to do something bigger and the electricity can’t support it.”
Hall is expected to return in March with a consultation plan and compile year-round use concepts for the area to be presented in October 2023.

Have to agree with Dayna and Susan…there are much bigger priorities this town needs to focus on. It’s perfect the way it is.
Please, please just leave that area as is. It’s a beautiful natural part of our town. Many people enjoy walking in a nice peaceful environment there.
The ice rink last year was great. It was made the old fashion way without destroying any of the natural environment.
Question: why fix something that isn’t broken? Work harder on affordable housing!
