Huntsville Public Library unveils its revamped Virtual Library

Are you comfortable? Maybe you have a coffee in hand? Good! Now is the perfect time for you to explore Huntsville Public Library’s new Virtual Library. (https://www.huntsvillelibrary.ca/en/index.aspx#)

The Library Board and staff proudly launched the redesigned virtual library today, August 31, 2018, which they say was needed in order to be responsive, accessible, flexible, informative, secure and fun.

The Virtual Library is accessible 24/7, 365 days a year, to explore, download, stream and educate users of all ages.

Here is what you can look forward to:

Responsive: Over 70 per cent of website users browse from a mobile device. The new website is responsive which means it allows for automatic resizing, panning and scrolling to create an optimal experience.

Accessible: the website is fully accessible to assist users who identify as having a disability.

Calendars: there are two calendars – Library Events and Local Events. The Library Events calendar shares details, directions, and more on events in the Library and Annex. Events can be added into personal calendars. Coming soon will be online registration and payment for events. The Local Events calendar allows not-for-profit community events to be posted.

New Materials Slides: there are three streams of images of new materials (called River Runs) for Books, DVDs and Music. Users can select a desired item, check to see if it is available and place a hold.

News & Newsletters: sign up to receive updates on news, alerts and programs as well as our seasonal newsletters or a weekly digest.

Lorraine Thomas, Chair of the Library Spaces Committee, has visited the new virtual Library and shared “I was just on it and I love it. It’s much more user friendly.”

The new website is easy peasy; particularly for placing holds.
