I knew your father all of my life. He was a very well respected man for many reasons other than being a good officer. He was such a gentleman too. He was there for my family when my brother committed suicide many years ago and I remember the tears he shed as well when he had to come to our house for obvious reasons. This was a long time ago. We lived close by so he knew our family. I get what you are saying for sure and I agree with you. I also understand that many officers differ from one another. Stress. Indeed.
Maybe it was the stress from “on the job” that clouded the judgement of the officer that threw me in jail after I confronted a drunk driver with a child in the car. I was charged with assault. Or maybe it was because he was friends with that person. It’s hard to feel sorry for some. I remember the days when police were respected. What happened? Even innocent people have to restrain their comments so words are picked to hold against them. I asked a police officer about a meth lab that was currently working and was told “they were watching it” I wondered aloud to him if he had young daughters or vulnerable family members to be concerned while they were watching. I feel for the officers that do care about the public they serve and live in.
Be compassionate . Let those who are without sin cast the first stone .But we do have to suffer cosequences for our mistakes.
I think this is pretty bad I lived with an alcoholic and I took a few beatings cause I wouldn’t let him drink and drive. So why in creation should this man get away with less than a non police officer would get, and he should be let go from his job along with it. Poor example to show to the public.
Mrs. Lori I had the chance in my life to work in a coal mine.More than 1000 meters below the surface. Narrow corridors to move. Water flowing down long walls .20 centimeters to the rock ceiling.Permanent gas hazard. Poor ventilation. Can such work be considered relaxing?
Alcohol is not spring water and an adult drinking alcohol is well aware of this. Sympathizing with any alcoholic is not a form of help but passive consent.
There are three professions I would not be part of and one is to be an OPP officer….I just hope things work out for Officer Schell….it is so easy to be judgmental when you are not dealing with the negative aspects of society on a daily basis…police have my total respect for the job they do and if occasionally, and quite seldom as well, an officer who looks after the well being of our community while on the job makes a mistake, he/she deserves our respect and understanding.
Bullcrap he wanted and loved his job.if his job was so stress why did he stay 35yrs makes no sense .the pension the money right so dont cry the stress ita a hard job
We are all fallible. This is an exercise in compassion for the rest of us.
So easy to pass judgement and offer senseless comment when one knows nothing of the larger picture.
Public officials should set an example They are N O T above the L A W !!!
My father was OPP for 35 years. At the end of his career he was put on stress leave. It is a very hard job. It would be a very difficult thing to arrest one of your own I hope and pray he will get the help that he needs.
The laws are set for everyone,, or should be,,no exceptions…
I never forget during my fire Rescue career I had to turn in someone that I knew very well and there is a saying ” you should know better ” could not be more true
He will be sentenced to one month’s paid compulsory leave.
