Today, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) reported one new COVID-19 case in Huntsville, a 65-79 year-old male whose infection was the result of close contact with another case.
The case, which was reported to the health unit on May 22, is the first COVID-19 case reported for Huntsville since May 9 and the fifth case this month. There were a total of 27 confirmed cases in Huntsville in April—the most in a single month since the pandemic began.
Huntsville’s overall case count to date is 122 (eight currently active); Lake of Bays has had 20 cases to date (three active). None of the Huntsville Lake of Bays cases are in hospital.
Elsewhere in Muskoka, the case counts are: Muskoka Lakes, 104 (10 active); Bracebridge, 86 (nine active); Gravenhurst, 73 (seven active); Georgian Bay, 27 (one active and in hospital).
There have been 150 Muskoka cases reported as the UK B.1.1.7 variant to date, as well as three confirmed as the Brazilian P.1 variant, and one as the South African B.1.351 variant. An additional 28 have screened positive for a variant of concern.
There have been a total of 432 COVID-19 cases reported in Muskoka to date (37 of them currently active, one of which is in hospital) and 11,291 in Simcoe County (1,054 active). A total of 245 people in Simcoe Muskoka have died from COVID-19, five of them in Muskoka.
