Huntsville Health Care Clinic opens to the public

The Huntsville Health Care Clinic (HHCC) opened to patients on Tuesday, February 21, 2023.

Initially, the clinic will only be seeing patients with cough, cold, and flu symptoms. It is not a walk-in clinic. Patients are required to book an appointment at algonquinfht.ca or by calling 705-789-1744.

The Algonquin Family Health Team and the Town of Huntsville have partnered to create the Huntsville Health Care Clinic, located at the Library Annex at 1 Minerva Street East.

The goal of the clinic is to:

  • Reduce Emergency Department visits.
  • Provide comprehensive primary care to the community for those who do not have a family doctor or nurse practitioner.

Stage one is to assess and treat patients with cough, cold and flu symptoms and to help those patients avoid a trip to the Emergency Department.

As the clinic evolves and when capacity allows, the HHCC will expand to provide comprehensive primary care to unattached patients. “We hope this will be announced in the coming weeks and will provide information about how to book an appointment for primary care services at that time,” states a release issued on behalf of the clinic on Friday evening.

It states that patients without cough, cold and flu symptoms who are seeking primary care services and who have a primary care provider, no matter where the provider is located, will be redirected to their primary care providers. This will allow the clinic to maximize availability and focus on the needs of unattached patients.

The HHCC will not be taking on patients permanently. Patients without a primary care provider are asked to sign up on their local waitlist. Accessing this clinic will not affect your waitlist status.

Unattached patients in the Huntsville area are encouraged to register on the wait list on the  Algonquin Family Health Team website, algonquinfht.ca, and can also access virtual care and learn more about where to  get care at https://www.mahc.ca/en/services/where-to-get-care-muskoka.aspx

WHY doesn’t Huntsville have a walk-in-clinic ??? Huntsville has a bigger population then Bracebridge and they have 2!!! This day and age with the problems that health care has, walk-in-clinics can be a necessity for some people especially with all the baby boomers !!!
