The Huntsville Public School (HPS) girls’ basketball team has risen to the top of the North Muskoka Sports League ranks to become 2021-22 champions.

The team went undefeated in the North Muskoka Sports League, which includes teams from HPS, Riverside, Spruce Glen, Pine Glen, Irwin Memorial, and VK Greer, through five regular season games, the playoffs, and the championships.

In the finals, they faced Irwin Memorial, and walked away with a 27-16 win for the championship.

“Everyone is feeling very excited and overjoyed with the win,” says coach Christi Campgell. “After missing basketball last year due to COVID, it was very exciting for all of us to get together for a successful season.”

The team, which comprises nine grade eight students and four grade seven students, made “a lot of improvements throughout the season,” she adds. “They worked hard at every practice and game. I’m very proud of their hard work and determination.”

Congratulations girls. I really enjoy going by HPS and seeing the kids playing in the yard. Being active is a cornerstone to good health. Thank you to the coach.
