It was pumpkin everything at the Dwight library‘s first Community Pumpkin Fest, held Saturday, October 21.
Activities included Hallowe’en-themed face painting, pumpkin carving, Hallowe’en arts and crafts, an erupting pumpkin station, and a contest for the best pumpkin pie.
The pumpkin pie judges, Megan Tapley, Dan Russell, Lake of Bays Deputy Mayor Nancy Tapley, and Alex Greven had the difficult job of choosing the best pie based on a number of criteria. Before announcing the winners, Nancy Tapley worried that she would lose votes in the next municipal election. “We don’t have to justify our decision, do we?” she asked. “It was very close.”

Nellie Sheshewabic was declared the winner. Second place went to CJ Seaman, Shelia Chorley came in third and Brittany Chorley took fourth. Prizes were supplied by The Beacon, Dwight Market and Erika’s Bakery.
- Three-year old Amelia was all smiles over the Hallowe’en offerings at the Library.
- Nellie Sheshewabic provided hand and face painting.
- Painted hands ~ very scary
- The erupting pumpkin activity went off with a bang (not really).
