Former Huntsville mayor and HHS principal suffers stroke

On Sunday, June 12, former Huntsville Mayor Terry Clarke was admitted to Huntsville Hospital with symptoms of a stroke. He was subsequently transferred to Toronto Western Hospital for evaluation and treatment, according to sources.

A spokesperson for the family said although the level of damage and outlook for a full recovery remains unclear, there have been several areas of improvement. Clark has since been transferred back to Huntsville Hospital for further treatment.

Clarke, a native of Port Sydney, served as Mayor of Huntsville from December 1986 to December 1992. He was an educator by profession and served as principal of Huntsville High School from September 1986 to June 1993.

For a number of years, he was also active in the construction business with his brother Bill.

Clarke has faced a number of health-related issues but friends who describe him as a determined individual, say they’re hoping he pulls through.
