The Town of Huntsville and the Township of Lake of Bays are pleased to announce the appointment of Gary Monahan as the Chief of Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire and Emergency Services.
Gary has been an active member of Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire and Emergency Services for over 32 years. Prior to his most recent role as Deputy Chief, Gary served as the Training Officer for the Department. Deeply dedicated to the community he loves and calls home; Gary is excited to assume his new role as Chief of Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire and Emergency Services and build upon the strength of the great team in place.
With Gary’s promotion to Chief, the position of Deputy Chief for Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire and Emergency Services has been Awarded to Deputy Chief Paul Calleja. Paul, a long-term resident of the Town of Huntsville and a 17-year veteran of Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire and Emergency Services, has been the Training officer and part-time firefighter with the service. Paul looks forward to working with the entire Huntsville/Lake of Bays team and working together to provide a high level of service.
Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Huntsville, Denise Corry, expresses her delight in the position selection.

“Both Gary and Paul were awarded the positions of Chief and Deputy Chief after an exhaustive review process which considered several highly qualified people. It was quite evident throughout this process that they were both the natural choices given the breadth of their experience and knowledge in the fire service, and I am confident that they will both be very successful in these roles. It is with great pleasure that we welcome Gary and Paul to their new roles and we look forward to supporting them as they continue to deliver this essential service in the most professional manner within our community.”
Mayor Karin Terziano expressed similar sentiments of enthusiasm for the selection of Chief Monahan and Deputy Chief Calleja in these new roles.
“Fire and Emergency Services provide so many important services to everyone that lives, works, and plays in the Town of Huntsville. Gary and Paul continually demonstrate their knowledge and skills in the delivery of this highly efficient and effective service. I, together with my Council colleagues look forward to working with Gary and Paul in their new roles as they continue to serve the residents and visitors within our community.”
Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Lake of Bays, Bryan Brown agreed with the Town of Huntsville’s enthusiasm and expressed the importance these roles play in delivering emergency services to Lake of Bays residents.
“Following a comprehensive and exhausting search, it was clear Chief Monahan and Deputy Chief Calleja were the preferred candidates to transition the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Service into the coming years. With close to 50 years of collective fire services experience between them, the Corporation of the Township of Lake of Bays looks forward to benefitting from their leadership in protecting our residents. We welcome both Gary and Paul into their new roles.”

As a Councillor for the ToH and the DoM for the last 22 year, I have had interactions with both Gary and Paul. So residents of Huntsville/Lake of Bays, I really think we can feel confident we are in great hands with Gary and Paul leading this crucial part of of our fundamental safety issues going forward.
