Submitted by the Green Party of Ontario

David Suzuki endorses Ontario Greens’ Mike Schreiner (Leader and candidate for Guelph), Matt Richter (candidate for Parry Sound–Muskoka), and Dianne Saxe (Deputy Leader and candidate for University-Rosedale).

“The well-being of the air, water, soil and food are what keeps us alive and well,” Suzuki said. “Deputy leader of the Ontario Greens, and former environment commissioner, Dianne Saxe, has demonstrated her commitment to fight for a better future through her unwavering commitment to address the climate crisis and protect our environment. That’s why she has my support in this election.”

“Only the Green Party is founded on principles that understand that we need clean air, water, soil and food to keep us alive and well. Matt Richter has demonstrated his commitment to fight for a better future through green values, and that’s why he has my support in this election.

“Mike Schreiner has proven as leader of the Ontario Greens and as MPP for Guelph that he is committed to fight for a better future through green values, and that’s why he has my support in this election.”

“Thank you to superstar David Suzuki for endorsing me for University-Rosedale,” Saxe said.

“It’s an honour to receive support from such a well-respected environmental leader,” Richter said.

Suzuki’s endorsement adds to a growing list of endorsements that both Saxe and Richter have received by prominent local, provincial and national voices. In a historic moment, Richter (along with Schreiner) was notably endorsed by OSSTF [Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation] earlier this week. He has also been endorsed by local ETFO [Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario] representatives.

Saxe has received endorsements from dozens of prominent voices across the political spectrum, including former Conservative politician Hugh Segal, former mayor and NDP candidate Barbara Hall, Liberal Tom Axelworthy (former principal secretary to Prime Minister Pierre E. Trudeau), and three-time Ontario NDP Candidate Julian Heller.

“Thank you David for endorsing two of our star candidates, Matt and Dianne, alongside myself,” Ontario Green leader Mike Schreiner said. “It’s truly humbling.

“David Suzuki recognizes that Greens have the leadership to deliver on tackling the climate emergency and building a healthier, climate-ready future.”

David Suzuki is a zealot who recently advocated violence against those who don’t agree with his narrow ideology. Even his own foundation had to distance itself from his words. Why would any political party want to accept an endorsement from this grifter and hatemonger? https://nationalpost.com/news/david-suzuki-foundation-disavows-suzukis-warning-that-pipelines-will-be-blown-up-if-there-is-no-climate-change-action

Suzuki’s lifetime advocacy for the absolutely crucial ecosocial wellbeing of the planet doesn’t in any way constitute a “narrow ideology”.

From the same article cited by Mr. Reuvekamp: “Asked whether or not he would support the bombing of pipelines, Suzuki said, ‘Of course not.’

Obviously, Suzuki is seriously worried, as are many of us, that mounting societal frustration in face of decades of inaction of governments, who are still in the pockets of the fossil fuel lobby, might result in social disobedience and disruption. Clearly a pertinent observation in our times.

We must not vilify very credible and well-deserved endorsements of very caring and forward-looking folks who aspire to serve the health of our communities.
