Council moves to more than double the fine for parking in a fire route

At their May 27 meeting, a majority of Huntsville councillors voted to increase the set fine for parking in a fire route in the Town of Huntsville from $100 to $250, noting the increased fine would serve as a deterrent.

Councillor Monty Clouthier moved the motion. He was concerned about the number of cars that park in the fire route on Dara Howell Way and spoke of the difficulty first responders would have getting to an emergency.

Councillor Helena Renwick noted that downtown patrons might stop on a fire route briefly if they can’t find parking and said she preferred to see enforcement at the current rate rather than increasing the fine.

The motion passed with Renwick voting against it when put to a vote.

The new fee has to be approved by the office of the Attorney General of Ontario before taking effect.

It’s irrelevant, parking violations are not informed in Huntsville anyway.
Go to the mall and watch how many fat good ole boys in pickups and entitled wealthy people in high end cars take the handicap spots.
Ive seen town owned trucks parked in the fire lane, on weekends, while they go in the bank.

And how about fire route in front of Scotiabank at mall ! While there. Hand out tickets to handicap parking abusers.
