The Town of Huntsville would like to notify residents of a phone scam. Residents in Huntsville have contacted the Municipality related to suspicious phone calls from an unlisted number. The Municipality would like to advise residents that the Town does not make phone calls regarding tax arrears.
Should residents receive “unlisted” phone calls regarding taxes do not provide any information, form of payment or personal information and notify the O.P.P. immediately.
Residents are reminded that the Municipality only contacts residents with regards to taxes by means of the tax bills. Any past due amounts including current interest charges would be indicated on these bills. In addition, “Arrears Notices” are mailed to all taxpayers with an overdue balance on accounts greater than twenty ($20.00) dollars. These notices are typically issued in April, October and December each year.
If you or someone you know suspect they’ve been a victim of a scam, contact your local police service. You can also file a complaint through the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), or online at https://www.tipsubmit.com/start.htm.
