Assistance application deadline for residents impacted by flooding is this month

Parry Sound-Muskoka MPP Norman Miller reminds residents and small businesses who are eligible for Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians (DRAO) that they have a limited time to apply for assistance following this spring’s flooding.

The Ontario government activated the Disaster Recovery Assistance program for towns of Bracebridge and Huntsville and the Township of Muskoka Lakes after flooding that began on April 19, 2019. The deadline to submit an application to this program for these residents is August 29, 2019. (The deadline for the Townships of Ryerson and Armour and the Village of Burk’s Falls is September 11, 2019.)

Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians is designed to help victims of natural disasters to get back on their feet. Eligible residents can apply for help with costs including emergency expenses, clean-up costs and repairs to or replacement of essential property at a primary residence. For more information about what is covered or to get an application form visit www.ontario.ca/disasterassistance.

Applications should include documentation establishing your primary address, a letter from your insurance provider and receipts or invoices for costs incurred or estimates for future costs. For more information on the application process, residents can call 1-844-780-8925 or email [email protected].

If you are eligible to apply, I found that I was unable to download and open the form from the Ontario Ministry of Housing’s website because I was using Chrome as my browser. Norm Miller’s office in Bracebridge was the only place that was able to provide a hard copy of the form.
