The Town of Huntsville has been notified by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit that an advisory has been issued for Port Sydney Beach.
An advisory is a warning to swimmers but it is not a beach closure.
During an advisory, a beach is posted with warning signs when the water contains levels of bacteria that indicate there may be an increased risk of developing minor skin, eye, ear, nose and throat infections and stomach disorders. If you choose to swim during an advisory, avoid ducking your head or swallowing the water.
Advisory signage is posted at the beach and the Town of Huntsville will monitor the situation in accordance with the advice of the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit.
The Town of Huntsville will notify residents when the advisory is lifted.

I’m 100% with Tom on this. The authorities say we can’t do anything as they are “migratory” birds but the problem I see is they don’t migrate!!
I’ve watched Lake of Bays for over 60 years and we never had geese except for a very occasional single lost one until about 12 years ago. Since then they have increased in population every year.
I don’t understand why, we need to put up with the growth of a formerly non resident animal that is a known problem for water quality and makes a total mess of any raft, dock or lawn area.
What is more important, the water quality, (remember many people drink lake water in this area!) and the use of our local environment as we have done so for over 100 years, or the preservation of a sudden increase in the goose population? Our government seems to feel geese trump humans.
I’ve heard geese compared to be “flying racoons” and have to admit that they seem to have no good attributes in our area. Maybe like Tom says, better to shoot them and eat them, at least to cut down the numbers a bit.
I suspect either the consistent heat we’ve had or probably Canada Geese. These birds destroy beaches with their feces! We need to do something about this pig of a bird that robs Loons of valuable nesting areas in the spring. For cottagers with lawns running down to their waterfronts beware. A friend of mine on Lake of Bays counted 42 geese on his lakeside lawn the other morning…yikes.
I heard a suggestion that we should have them culled to greatly reduce their numbers and feed the poor. A win-win I say. Love the idea.
