Wayback Wednesday 2019-30 Muddy Main Street 1938

It’s Wayback Wednesday: Muddy Main Street

Welcome to Wayback Wednesday sponsored by Cavalcade Color Lab!

Every week, we’ll be sharing a vintage photo and asking our readers to chime in with anything you can recall about the photo, other related memories, or even a funny caption.

Have some vintage photos of your own? Send them to [email protected] and we may share them with our readers!

Can you tell what’s happening at the end of Huntsville’s Main Street in this 1938 image?

This photo is from Huntsville: More Pictures from the Past, the second book produced by the then- Heritage Huntsville committee. A new edition of it’s first book, Pictures from the Past: Huntsville Lake of Bays, will be released soon.

Last week we shared this photo with you:

The inaugural Flapjack Jamboree was presented by the Huntsville Chamber of Commerce in May 1980. They served up pancakes, sausage and beans to welcome summer visitors (permanent residents had a special invitation, too).

These Huntsville Chamber of Commerce members are (from left) John Finley, Dorothy Lake, Bob Johnson, Win Bestwick, Brian Tapley, Dave Chamberlain, Bob Dickson, and Ted Bionda.

  1. Warren Prince says:

Re Muddy Main Street, my guess the construction of the swing bridge.

  2. It was a blast from the past seeing my former Chamber of Commerce Directors in last week’s Wayback Wednesday. Does anyone remember the rodeos the Chamber organized in the 1980s? They were held up on the Lions Lookout.
